Cumberland County to Participate in 2025 Operation Green Light for Veterans

Nov 04, 2025

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – In honor of the Veterans Day holiday, Cumberland County will once again participate in Operation Green Light for Veterans by illuminating county buildings green from Nov. 4 through Nov. 11, 2025. This nationwide initiative, led by the National Association of Counties (NACo), aims to show support for military veterans while raising awareness about the unique challenges they face and the resources available to assist them.

Now in its fifth year, Operation Green Light is spearheaded by NACo and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers, building upon successful efforts by the New York State Association of Counties and the NYS County Veteran Service Officers’ Association in 2021. In 2023 and 2024, over 450 counties participated in Operation Green Light.

“As a veteran, I know firsthand the importance of recognizing and supporting those who have served,” said Cumberland County Board of Commissioners Chairman Kirk deViere. “With Fort Bragg in our backyard, Cumberland County shares an unmatched bond with our military, and Operation Green Light is a simple but powerful way for us to show our appreciation to veterans and their families.”

In addition to lighting county buildings, Cumberland County encourages residents, businesses and community organizations to participate by changing one indoor or outdoor light bulb to a green light bulb in appreciation and support of the county’s veterans.

“Operation Green Light is an opportunity to thank veterans for both their service to our nation and their contributions to our communities,” said NACo Executive Director Matthew Chase. “With hundreds of counties coming together to light up everything from courthouses to bridges, we know veterans will see and feel our gratitude for their selflessness and courage.”

Counties and residents are encouraged to share their participation on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.
