FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – In an emergency, seconds matter. Cumberland County Emergency Services reminds residents and those who work in Cumberland County to sign up for Cumberland Alerts, the County’s free emergency notification system. Additionally, residents are invited to enroll in Cumberland SAFE, a voluntary registry designed to help emergency responders better assist individuals with access and functional needs during emergencies.

Cumberland Alerts

Cumberland Alerts allows Emergency Services to quickly notify residents of critical information, including severe weather, evacuations, shelter openings and other emergency situations. Alerts can be delivered by text message, email or pre-recorded phone calls and may be targeted to specific geographic areas within the County.

Cumberland SAFE

Emergency Services recently launched Cumberland SAFE (Safety for Access & Functional Needs in Emergencies), a confidential, voluntary registry for individuals who may need additional assistance before, during or after an emergency. This includes people who rely on medical equipment such as oxygen or dialysis; individuals with physical, sensory or cognitive disabilities; those who are medically fragile or homebound; older adults living alone; and others who may face challenges evacuating or accessing services during an emergency.

“Cumberland SAFE helps us plan more effectively and better understand the needs of our community,” said Emergency Services Director Garry Crumpler. “The registry gives emergency management and first responders critical information that supports more informed response and recovery efforts.”

Residents can sign up for Cumberland Alerts and Cumberland SAFE by visiting cumberlandcountync.gov/alerts, creating an account, and selecting their preferred contact methods and alert types. Those who already have a Cumberland Alerts account can opt in to Cumberland SAFE through their existing profile by selecting the “Cumberland SAFE Registry” option under alert subscriptions and completing the additional information section.

Paper registration forms for Cumberland SAFE are also available at Cumberland County Emergency Services, located at 500 Executive Place, Fayetteville. For questions or assistance, residents can call Emergency Services at 910-321-6736, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
