FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County Public Library’s “Unearth A Story” 2026 Summer Reading Challenge runs from June 1 to July 31. The theme celebrates discovery through reading, and the program highlights how every person and community has stories waiting to be discovered and shared through books and events. Participants can explore great books, uncover hidden histories and connect with local stories and knowledge.
Residents may obtain a reading log from any of the eight library locations. To participate online, readers may download the READsquared app at ccplnc.readsquared.com.

10 Hours of Reading

Babies and Children: Free book selected from a cart of options

Teens: Free book from numerous selections

Adults: Carabiner straw kit with bottle opener
20 Hours of Reading

Teens and Adults: Bluetooth speaker and $5 Book Bucks for the Friends of the Cumberland County Public Library, Inc. book sale
Every age level will be rewarded with a prize while supplies last.

Each library location will select three prize winners to receive gift cards:
There will also be three grand prize winners to receive $100 gift cards to Group Therapy, an indoor entertainment venue.
Every five extra hours of reading after reaching 20 hours, and every library location visited earns a bonus entry into the prize drawings.
