Dec 17, 2021, 14:51 PM by Jon Soles
Board of Elections Director Terri Robertson will retire at the end of December.

Cumberland County Board of Elections Director Terri Robertson is retiring at the end of December after serving as director since 2001. Robertson, who first joined the department in 1994, was honored with a resolution by the five-member Board of Elections during her final board meeting Dec. 14.

The resolution stated, “Under the leadership of Terri Robertson the Cumberland County Board of Elections has become a model in our region and across the State of North Carolina in election integrity, efficiency and innovation.”

The board said, “Through five presidential elections, 48 elections, hundreds of days of early voting, hurricanes, floods, power outages, chemical spills, bomb threats, and a world-wide pandemic, Terri Robertson has remained a steady and trusted hand.”

During her tenure at the Board of Elections, the office greatly expanded early voting through evening and weekend hours and locations and increased its online presence, offering resources and tools for voters to find their precincts and elected officials.

“It was only going to be a couple of weeks, but I’m still here,” Robertson said. “I’ve just enjoyed working for Cumberland County Government.”

At a retirement reception held Dec. 13, Robertson was visited by North Carolina State Board of Elections Director Karen Brinson Bell.

The Board of Elections appointed Administrative Coordinator Angie Amaro as the interim director effective Jan. 1. The director position is posted under the Jobs tab on the County’s website at cumberlandcountync.gov.
