Cumberland County Launches Go Live Emergency Voice Dispatch Technology

Jun 16, 2026, 11:01 AM by Sade' Wilson
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County Emergency Services has launched a new voice dispatch technology designed to improve emergency response times, increase efficiency inside the Emergency Communications Center and better inform those responding to emergencies.

Approved by the Board of Commissioners in Fiscal Year (FY) 2025, the project was developed in partnership with the Cumberland County Fire Chief’s Association. The system automates portions of the dispatch process by instantly broadcasting key response information to stations and responders, helping reduce delays and allowing telecommunicators to focus on callers and incoming emergencies.

“This is about saving time when every second matters,” said Cumberland County Commissioner and Fire Commissioner Henry Tyson. “By investing in critical 911 technology and countywide emergency communications, we are laying the foundation for a more unified public safety system that improves coordination, enhances situational awareness and ultimately delivers better outcomes for our entire community.”

Emergency Services staff worked with the 911 Board to identify system needs, secure vendors and finalize implementation. The project was funded through the Emergency Telephone System Fund and the County general fund. The investment reflects Cumberland County’s continued commitment to innovation, preparedness and strong regional emergency communications.
