Animal Services Hosts Vaccination Event Wednesday, March 16

Mar 14, 2022, 08:48 AM by Claudia Sievers

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County Animal Services will host a vaccination event on March 16, from 1-5 p.m. The drive-through event will take place at the Animal Services Center, 4704 Corporation Drive in Fayetteville.

Petco Love established March as “National Pet Vaccination Month” to encourage pet parents to keep their pets up to date on vaccinations and will provide free pet vaccines to Cumberland County Animal Services for family pets in need. As puppy and kitten season approaches, pet exposure to contagious and deadly diseases increases, but is preventable with a simple vaccine.

“Thanks to Petco Love, we can offer these important vaccines at no cost to pet owners,” said Elaine Smith, Director of Cumberland County Animal Services. “We urge community members to take advantage of this free resource to help reduce the spread of disease and ensure the health and wellness of our community’s pets.”

FREE Combination Vaccines:

The free vaccines are provided through a partnership with nonprofit Petco Love. Dogs and puppies can receive a combination vaccine for canine Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus commonly known as a DAPPv. Feline can receive a combination vaccine which protect against feline rhinotracheitis, calici and panleukopenia viruses will also be available for cats and kittens for free.

$5 Rabies Vaccinations:

North Carolina Law states “the owner of every dog and cat over four months of age shall have the animal vaccinated against rabies.” To remain properly immunized, a dog or cat must receive two rabies vaccinations one year apart, then one vaccination every three years thereafter. Dog and cat owners in Cumberland County who have not vaccinated their pet in accordance with this law are subject to a civil penalty in the amount of $100.

Rabies vaccinations will be available for $5 per pet. Cash and debit/credit cards will be accepted for the rabies vaccines.

National Pet Vaccination Month is a continuation of Petco Love’s 1 million free pet vaccine campaign, which has helped 400,000 pets to date. Fifty percent of participating pet parents surveyed reported their pets had never been vaccinated against these diseases. With Bissell Pet Foundation as an additional partner this month, Petco Love’s goal is to increase awareness and accelerate the distribution of vaccines.

Animal Services aims to vaccinate 450 pets through this effort.

While at the clinic, please keep dogs leashed and cats in separate carriers or boxes or leave them in a car with the windows down or the air conditioner switched on. Owners may be held responsible for any damage their pet causes at the clinic.
