County Solid Waste Management Receives Foam Recycling Coalition Grant

Mar 04, 2026

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County residents have a new opportunity to recycle foam products, thanks to the recent launch of a foam recycling program at the Ann Street Landfill, located at 698 Ann St. in Fayetteville.

Solid Waste Management installed a foam densifier that allows the County to compact and recycle polystyrene materials, including foam cups, plates, bowls, take-out containers, egg cartons and block packaging foam. Residents may drop accepted foam items at any Cumberland County container site.

The foam densifier was funded through a $50,000 grant from the Foodservice Packaging Institute’s (FPI) Foam Recycling Coalition.

“Expanding recycling options is an important part of how we serve our community and protect our natural resources,” said Cumberland County General Manager of Natural Resources Amanda Lee. “This equipment allows us to divert more material from the landfill, maximize available space and support long-term sustainability efforts across Cumberland County.”
