Countywide Burn Ban Lifted

Jun 2, 2021, 00:00 AM by Claudia Sievers

With guidance from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture Consumer Services, a burn ban, which was implemented on May 24 in Cumberland County will be lifted starting at 5 p.m. today.

Due to recent rainfall and as more rain is expected across the area through the weekend, the risk of a fire danger is expected to decrease. As of 5 p.m., all burn permits will be allowed from any authorized permitting agent or online.

“We encourage all residents to burn responsibly,” said Fire Marshal Kevin Lowther. “Please make sure you have a valid permit before burning and never leave debris fire unattended.”

Residents can monitor the county’s rating for fire danger here. The map is based on a National Fire Danger Rating System parameter describing environmental conditions that could cause fires to ignite and spread.
