FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The following is a summary of the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners Special Meeting held at 9 a.m. on June 29 in Room 564 of the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse. Agendas and supporting materials are available at cumberlandconc.portal.civicclerk.com.

Vice Chairwoman Veronica Jones led the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance.

The special meeting was called to receive an update regarding ongoing discussions with the City of Fayetteville on a proposed joint resolution to establish a unified Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), or 911 communications center.

During the meeting, the Board recessed to allow Chairman Kirk deViere and Fayetteville Mayor Mitch Colvin to have a call with Senator Tom McInnis regarding the progress of discussions between the City and County.

Following that call, Chairman Kirk deViere reported that Senator Tom McInnis agreed to extend the deadline for the City and County to reach a joint resolution from 5 p.m. June 29 to 11:59 p.m. on July 8.

The Board also discussed next steps in the collaborative process. The Fayetteville City Council is expected to consider the County's June 26 proposed joint resolution during a special meeting on June 30.

The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners will hold a special meeting at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, to receive and discuss any revisions proposed by the City.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:44 p.m.
